4 Steps When Packing Your Large Mirror for Moving

Large mirrors are easy to break and especially easy to break when relocating. So, correctly packing your mirror is crucial because it can save the mirror and prevent an accident that could end with broken glass everywhere. Here is an ideal way to pack your large mirrors for a household move.

1. Gather Supplies

Gather your moving supplies before starting to pack your mirror. The right supplies will help ensure you pack your mirror properly. Without the right tools, you could be tempted to cut corners and pack your mirror in the wrong box or without the right padding. Here's what you'll need:

  • Packing tape

  • Mirror Box

  • Bubble wrap

  • Packing paper

  • Cardboard

  • Painter's tape or masking tape

  • Sharpie

Mirror boxes are designed to hold mirrors, so they're the right dimensions and wide enough to hold a mirror in a frame. Find a mirror box that's the correct size for your mirror.

2. Prepare the Mirror

Use painter's or masking tape to put a large X or a grid of tape on the front of your mirror. This will help keep your mirror together if the mirror does happen to break during transit, although your mirror should remain intact if you move the box carefully and pack the mirror properly.

Next, use painter's tape to secure a piece of cardboard to the front and back of the mirror to help pad it if it is jolted during transport. If the mirror has no frame, attach cardboard to the edges and corners of the mirror.

3. Package the Mirror

Wrap the mirror in packing paper, then in bubble wrap. Tape the packing paper, and the bubble wrap around the mirror using packing tape. Finally, apply one more layer of packing paper to the mirror.

Slide the mirror into the designated carton. If the mirror is properly wrapped and the box is the right size, then the mirror should fit inside snuggly. If the mirror jiggles inside the box, remove it and add more layers of bubble wrap. Continue to wrap the mirror in bubble wrap until it fits properly inside the mirror box.

4. Ensure Your Mirror is Protected During Transport

Write the word "FRAGILE" on all sides of the mirror box. Next, tape the mirror box closed. Finally, label the container with contents to ensure everyone who moves the mirror box knows what they're handling. This will help ensure the mirror you have adequately protected the mirror for transport.
